Schoolchildren at a New York elementary school have been correctly predicting who will become president during every election since 1968, and this year, they've picked Hillary Clinton.

"Our whole staff is a little nervous," Patricia Moore, principal at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Yorktown Heights, told WNBC in New York. "We are a good predictor [of who will win the presidential election]."

The tradition began at the school in 1968, when students predicted Richard Nixon would become president.

Teachers at the school said they didn't focus on any of the candidates, which could have been a problem with the current election's contentious nature, but instead focused on the electoral process and asked students what they thought would mark good traits for a president.

For their vote, the children lined up single-file in a classroom, decked out with flags and drapery and entered a voting booth, where a teacher helped them vote by pulling the lever for their candidates.

At the end of the day, students gathered inside the school auditorium, and learned Clinton had won by 52 percent of the school's popular vote.

Even though their votes won't count toward Tuesday's final tally, students learned that it does count to make a choice.

"I learned that it counts when you vote," Brian Schiller, 11, said. "Everyone deserves to have a chance to vote."
