Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has cut significantly into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's lead in national polling for the Democratic presidential nomination, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.

Clinton still leads Sanders by 11 points with registered Democrats, but that is down from her 25-point lead in the same poll one month ago.

February 16:
  • Hillary Clinton: 53 percent
  • Bernie Sanders: 42 percent
January 16:
  • Hillary Clinton: 59 percent
  • Bernie Sanders: 34 percent

According to the poll, Clinton leads Sanders with minorities (62 percent to 33 percent), women (58 percent to 39 percent), voters 50 and older (62 percent to 31 percent) and self-identified Democrats (58 percent to 37 percent).

Sanders leads with white men (54 percent to 41 percent), independents (61 percent to 33 percent) and voters under 50 (57 percent to 40 percent).

The poll was conducted February 14-16 and talked to 400 registered 400 Democratic primary voters. The margin of error for Democrats was plus-or-minus 4.9 percentage points.
