Sanders to Meet Al Sharpton, Shore up African American Voters

Sen. Bernie Sanders is meeting with the Rev. Al Sharpton for breakfast in Harlem on Wednesday — a get-together highlighting the surging Democratic presidential contender's push to gain support among black voters.

The meeting will be at Sylvia's, the same restaurant where Sharpton met then-Sen. Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign, The New York Times reports.

The meeting comes a day after the New Hampshire primary — and ahead of South Carolina, where making inroads among black voters may become crucial in the Vermont lawmaker's run against Hillary Clinton, The Times reports.

NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell told MSNBC Tuesday night that Sanders is also expected to pick up an endorsement from singer-songwriter and social activist Harry Belafonte.
