Hillary Clinton is the most qualified candidate in the presidential race, former Massachusetts governor and current Libertarian vice presidential nominee Bill Weld said Friday.
During an interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC's "MTP Daily," Weld addressed Clinton and Republican Donald Trump in between campaign stops with party nominee Gary Johnson.
"I think he's in the wrong place trying to be president of the United States," Weld said of Trump. "I do not view those other two candidates [on the Democratic ticket] the same way. I think very highly of Mrs. Clinton. I think she's very well qualified and thought she did a great job in the debate the other night."
When asked more about Clinton's qualifications, Weld didn't mince words.
"I'm not sure anyone is more qualified than Hillary Clinton to be president of the United States," Weld said.
Johnson and Weld have struggled to drum up much support for their campaign, but they have received a handful of endorsements from newspapers — including the Chicago Tribune, which announced Friday it is backing the campaign.
