The 8-year-old boy who died in the Boston Marathon bombings wrote four words on a sign at school nearly a year ago.
“No more hurting people,” Martin Richard’s sign said.
He also took a picture holding up a bright blue sign decorated with hearts surrounding the word “Peace.”
Martin, a grade-schooler, and his family were watching the marathon near the finish line when the two bombs ignited near Copley Square in downtown Boston.
He died, while his mother, Denise, and his sister were seriously injured, The Boston Globe reported.
Denise Richard underwent surgery for a brain injury — and Martin's 6-year-old sister lost her leg, according to CNN. Both were still hospitalized late Tuesday.
The boy's father, William Richard, is a community leader in the Ashmont section of Dorchester, the Globe reports.
“My dear son Martin has died from injuries sustained in the attack on Boston,” Richard said in a statement on Tuesday. “My wife and daughter are both recovering from serious injuries.
“We thank our family and friends, those we know and those we have never met, for their thoughts and prayers.
“I ask that you continue to pray for my family as we remember Martin,” the statement continued. “We also ask for your patience and for privacy as we work to simultaneously grieve and recover. Thank you.”
