GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson says he has been assured by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus that there will be no backroom deals to keep him, Donald Trump, or any other candidate from becoming the party's nominee.
"One of the reasons I got into this is because I heard the frustration in people who are so tired of backroom deals, of subterfuge, of dishonesty, and you know, if that's the case, you know, I'm out of here," Carson said Sunday on ABC's
"This Week."
Carson said on Friday that he would leave the party if reports of a private meeting looking for ways to avoid a Donald Trump nomination were true.
"I have subsequently spoken to Reince Priebus. He told me those are routine meetings," Carson said Sunday. "They have them all the time. This was no different than any of the others, that the last thing they would do is engage in backroom dealing."
But, Carson told host George Stephanopoulos, "the jury is out. We'll be keeping a close eye on things."
