Christie: Democrats Will Tax You 80 Percent for Freebies

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says there's no free lunch.

He was asked during Tuesday's undercard GOP debate how Republicans can win when Democrats are offering free health care and free or subsidized college education.

"Yeah, sure," Christie said. "If anybody believes the stuff they heard from the Democratic debate a few weeks ago, there's nothing for free. What they forgot to tell you is that they're going to raise your tax rates to 70 or 80 percent to provide all that stuff."

Why, he asked, should Americans give Washington more control over their lives?

"Is Washington doing that good a job for you right now?" he said. "What we need to do is get the government the hell out of the way and let the American people win once again."
