Rep. Chris Collins, R-N.Y. said he will start carrying his handgun in the future.

Collins' comments came after the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., and four others on Wednesday morning. He made his remarks during a telephone interview with WKBW-TV in Buffalo, N.Y.

"I will be carrying when I'm out and about, which I have to tell you, I've not been even though I have a carry permit at home," Collins said.

Reporter Ali Touhey, a reporter for the station, noted on Twitter:

Collins revealed he would sometimes bring his gun to events, but usually left it in his car.

"On a rare occasion, I'd have my gun in the glove box or something, but it's going to be in my pocket from this day forward," he said.
