Hillary Clinton's support in the Democratic Party primary race for the White House has shrunk to below 50 percent and her lead over Bernie Sanders is a slim 12 points, the latest national
Fox News Poll finds.
Here's how the numbers break down in the survey conducted Jan. 18-21:
- Hillary Clinton, 49 percent (down 5 points from two weeks ago)
- Bernie Sanders, 37 percent (down 2 points)
- Martin O'Malley, 1 percent (down 2 points)
- Undecided, 10 percent (up 8 points)
In June, Clinton held a commanding 46-point lead over Sanders.
Among other findings:
- The poll shows Clinton losing support among black voters. She still holds a commanding 67 percent of support from that demographic, but that is down from 78 percent two weeks ago and 84 percent in December.
- Sanders leads by 26 points among voters under age 45. Clinton leads by 42 points among voters age 45 and over.
- Among Sanders supporters, 27 percent say they would be pleased if Clinton won the nomination, while 19 percent said they would be so unhappy that they would not vote.
- As for Clinton backers, 43 percent say they could back Sanders, while 13 percent say they probably would not bother to vote if Sanders were to become the party's nominee.
- 84 percent of Sanders supporters and 93 percent of Clinton backers approve of the job Barack Obama is doing as president.
The poll is based on telephone interviews with 1,009 registered voters across the nation. It has a margin of error of 5 points for the Democrat voter sample.
