Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump by 8 points in the wake of the Democratic National Convention, bringing her numbers up from a single-point difference the week before, a new NBC News/Survey Monkey poll released Tuesday morning shows.

According to the online weekly poll, conducted July 15-31 of 12,727 adults who said they are registered voters:

  • Clinton: 50 percent;
  • Trump: 42 percent.

Her numbers were cut some in a potential four-way matchup, but the poll still put her ahead by 4 points:

  • Clinton: 42 percent;
  • Trump: 38 percent;
  • Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson: 9 percent;
  • Green Party candidate Jill Stein: 4 percent.

According to NBC, the Republican National Convention did not result in a similar boost for Trump.

Also, Clinton's numbers went up following controversies in the Trump campaign, including his comments about Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of a fallen Army captain; and after he suggested that Russian hackers should find and turn over Clinton's deleted emails, a statement made during a press conference that he later said was "sarcastic."

Clinton's favorability numbers also grew this week, going up 5 percent since the same question was asked two weeks ago:

  • Favorable impression: 20 percent, up from 15;
  • Among Democrats: 80 percent, up from 74 percent;
  • Unfavorable among Democrats: 19 percent, down from 24 percent.
  • Obama's job approval ratings also went up this week after the convention, the poll shows:
  • Approval rating: 52 percent, up from 29 percent;.

While the poll numbers went up individually, the Democratic Party did not fare so well after the convention when it comes to being viewed favorably:

  • 27 percent, more favorably;
  • 35 percent, less favorably;
  • 37 percent, opinion did not change.
  • Among Democrats: 50 percent, more favorable;
  • Independent voters: 42 percent less favorably; 49 percent no change.

The results were similar to the ratings for the Republican Party following their convention, NBC noted.

Further, the poll showed that just four in 10 voters were more interested in this year's Democratic convention than in the events from other years:

  • Democrats: 58 percent said they were more interested in this year's convention;
  • Independents: 46 percent, same level of interest;
  • 34 percent were less interested.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.2 percentage points.
