Conservatives insist they're still pressing on in their fight against Obamacare even though the healthcare repeal didn't make the cut in President Donald Trump's first State of the Union address, the Washington Examiner reports.

Trump did, however, tout the repeal of the individual mandate — requiring all Americans to buy healthcare in lieu of a penalty — as part of Republicans' new tax reform law.

But though Obamacare repeal isn't a priority of the president's, conservatives are still hammering away.

"Obviously when you’ve had two failures you don't want to necessarily go and use that on the State of the Union, but there is real work going on behind the scenes on healthcare," Freedom Caucus chair Rep. Mark Meadows told the Examiner.

Trump and Republican leadership outlined a strategy of getting more bipartisan legislation done this calendar year, which could entail ways to improve healthcare, but moving on from further attempts to repeal it.

"The president knows that we have to decrease the cost of healthcare and increase the quality of care," Sen. Cory Gardner told the Examiner. "When he talked about decreasing the cost of prescription drugs that is just one way to do it."
