A Hillary Clinton supporter Monday provided a provocative "zinger" for Donald Trump to use during the nominees' first debate — suggesting the GOP nominee could point out that Clinton can easily be bought.
During a CNN panel at Hofstra University ahead of Monday night's debate, host Erin Burnett asked participants what the "best zinger or one-liner would be."
David Brock, whose pro-Clinton network includes his Media Matters for America watchdog website and two pro-Clinton super PACs, offered a zinger for both Clinton and Trump.
First, he said Clinton should call a vote for Trump, a vote for the Islamic State or Russian President Vladimir Putin. But it was his suggestion for Trump that caught the panel off-guard.
"For Trump, I'm going to give an objective answer," Brock said. "I think he should say, 'Hillary, you're bought and paid for. You even came to my wedding, because I gave you money' — a reference to her 2005 attendance at the wedding of Trump and current wife Melania Knauss.
Former Bush administration official Matt Schlapp immediately joked the Brock remark was "on tape."
