Dick Morris: Ted Cruz Is Eligible to Be President

Ted Cruz is eligible to be president of the United States and the questions surrounding his citizenship are "absolutely dirty pool," political analyst Dick Morris said Thursday.

"He was born to an American mother, making him clearly a native-born American," Morris said in a video blog post. "There's no question that he is eligible, and this nonsense about questioning his eligibility is really just horrible.

"It creates this huge asterisk over his candidacy that has no reason at all to be there," he added. "It's a complete fabrication."

"You could be born on the moon, but if your mother is a native-born American and your father is a native-born American, you are a native-born American eligible to run for president.

"It's as simple as that," Morris said.

Republican front-runner Donald Trump has recently raised questions about Cruz's citizenship.

Cruz, 45, a first-term senator from Texas, was born in Calgary, Alberta, to an American-born mother and a father from Cuba.

Morris called the attacks "a very subtle hit" and "a ridiculous charge.

"It has nothing to do with reality. No legal scholar agrees with it.

"Some of Ted Cruz's enemies are piling on and saying, 'Oh, this is worth looking into,'" he added. "None of them are stepping up and owning up to the allegation.

"Trump called it 'a precarious issue' for the Republican Party. These are all attempts to get rid of Ted Cruz as a candidate without any basis, without any issue."

Cautioning that he was "not taking sides in the presidential race," Morris slammed the attacks as "absolutely dirty pool.

"Ted Cruz is as eligible to be president as any past American president has been — and you can take that one to the bank or to the court."
