Conservatives: If NBC Fires Trump It Should Fire Sharpton

Conservatives are calling foul on NBC for cutting ties with Donald Trump on Monday while keeping the Rev. Al Sharpton as a host on its sister cable network MSNBC.

NBC made the right decision in firing Trump for statements he made about Mexicans, but Sharpton has made equally offensive statements and keeps his job, Kayleigh McEnany, editor of Political Prospect, told CNN on Monday.

Trump immediately was criticized when he said in his June 16 presidential campaign announcement, "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best ... They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Univision announced last week it would not air Trump's Miss Universe pageant, and NBC on Monday announced it, too, was cutting all ties with Trump, including his Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants and dumping him as host of "The Apprentice."

Appearing on "CNN Tonight," McEnany said she agrees with the critics of Trump, whom she considers more of a sideshow than a serious candidate. His words were "unartful and inappropriate," though they touched on the serious issue of immigration, she said.

"But we hear equally hateful statements come from another NBC host, Al Sharpton, who has called Jews white interlopers, who has said that Jews should pin back their yarmulkes," she said. "If NBC wants to be consistent — I'm with you. Let's not let anyone say anything derogatory, but let's be consistent."

Fox News Channel's Brit Hume concurred on Monday's "O'Reilly Factor," asking, "Do they apply that standard to Al Sharpton who's got a nightly show on their channel?"

Other conservatives agreed, taking to Twitter to air their views:
