Republican Donald Trump urged Muslim Americans to report suspicious actions by other Muslims when they see them to prevent attacks like the San Bernardino attack that killed 22 people in 2015.

Trump was asked during Sunday's presidential debate what he would do to prevent Islamophobia.

"You are right about Islamophobia and that is a shame," Trump said.

But he said the name "radical Islamic terrorism" must be used in order to fight terrorism.

Democrat Hillary Clinton reasserted her position using the name "Islam" plays into the hands of the Islamic State [ISIS] by making it appear the West is at war with the religion.

"Muslims have to report the problems when they see them," Trump said. "If they don't do that it's a very difficult situation for our country because you look at Orlando, and you look at San Bernardino and the World Trade Center. Look at Paris."

Clinton countered there have been "a lot of very divisive, dark things said about Muslims," and pointed to Trump for attacking the parents of a Muslim soldier killed fighting against Islamic terrorism.

"We have had Muslims in America since George Washington," she said. "My vision of America is an America where everyone has a place if you are willing to work hard, you do your past, you contribute to the community. That's what America is."
