Donald Trump has a commanding lead in the GOP presidential primary field in South Carolina in two new polls – including one in which the real estate billionaire has more than double the support of his nearest rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
The surveys,
the South Carolina House Republican Caucus, and the
Opinion Savvy Poll, come just eight days ahead of the Palmetto State's Feb. 20 primary.
Here's the breakdown in the South Carolina House Republican Caucus survey:
- Trump: 34.5 percent
- Cruz: 15.5 percent
- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush: 13 percent
- Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: 12.5 percent
- Ohio Gov. John Kasich: 8.5 percent
- Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson: 5 percent
- Undecided: 11 percent
Trump beats the competition among conservatives, moderates, libertarians, independent and across age groups – and even edges out Cruz with tea party Republicans, 37 percent to 36 percent.

In the Opinion Savvy survey, the results show:
- Trump: 36 percent
- Cruz: 19 percent
- Rubio: 15 percent
- Bush: 11 percent
- Kasich: 9 percent
- Carson: 5 percent
- Undecided: 5 percent
The margin of error in the this survey is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
