Donald Trump still leads even when the Republican presidential field is cut to the top three candidates, according to the latest
YouGov poll.
The national poll of likely Republican primary voters found that winnowing the field down to Trump, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio did not put either of the two remaining challengers ahead of the outspoken real estate developer.
Here's what a three-way race would look like:
- Donald Trump: 45 percent
- Ted Cruz: 30 percent
- Marco Rubio: 21 percent
Trump also holds his commanding lead when all the current field is included:
- Donald Trump: 36 percent
- Ted Cruz: 20 percent
- Marco Rubio: 11 percent
- Ben Carson: 6 percent
- Jeb Bush: 5 percent
- Chris Christie: 4 percent
- Rand Paul, John Kasich, Mike Huckabee, Carly Fiorina: 3 percent
- Rick Santorum: 2 percent
Cruz is viewed by most Republican voters as the most "true conservative," while Trump is viewed as the most "bold" and "strong," which appears to more important to GOP voters this year. Rubio is seen as the more "establishment" politician.
The poll was conducted January 9-11 over the Internet and has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.6 percent.
