The Donald Trump campaign on Monday released a new 60-second TV ad set to air in Florida, painting the state's senator as a corrupt politician who can't be trusted.
The ad can also be seen on
Trump's campaign website.
The ad details Sen. Marco Rubio's time as a state legislator when he changed a vote after selling his house for a $200,000 profit to the mother of the bill's lobbyist, and his use of a state Republican Party charge card to pay for $22,000 in personal expenses.
"When he got caught, he said he had used the wrong credit card," the ad's announcer says, but notes he used same card for six flights between Miami and Tallahassee while also billing the state for the same flights.
The ad also hits Rubio's voting record in the U.S. Senate, calling him a "total no-show."
"Lightweight Sen. Marco Rubio is a dishonest person," Trump said in a prepared statement announcing the ad. "He has cheated with credit cards, and does favors for lobbyists. In my opinion, he is a total crook and I am doing the people of Florida a great favor by further exposing him."
Rubio "takes his orders from the Republican establishment and Super PACs who are spending millions of dollars to keep their puppet alive and well so he will continue to do what they say," Trump said. "Former Prosecutor and now Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, exposed him on the debate stage for being what he is - a choke artist. We are now going a step further."
Rubio faces Trump and the rest of the GOP filed in Florida's winner-take-all primary on March 15.
