GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump was attacked at Thursday's debate by his rivals over his call for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country and for suggesting a tariff on countries such as China to stop them from taking American jobs.

When asked by moderator Maria Bartiromo if he'd like to rethink his controversial position on Muslims, he replied with one word: "No."

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush asked him to reconsider "because this policy is a policy that makes it impossible to build the coalition necessary to take out ISIS [the Islamic State.] The Kurds are our strongest allies, they're Muslim. You're not going to allow them to come to our country?"

Bush agreed that a stronger screening process is needed, "but all Muslims? Seriously?" he asked. "What kind of signal does that send to the rest of the world that the United States is a serious player in creating peace?"

Others agreed that Syrian refugees might create a threat of terrorist embeds.

On the tariff issue, Trump even seemed to be unable to get the Fox Business Network moderators to agree it was a good idea. Other candidates said it would raise prices for American consumers and spark retaliation, hurting things such as soybean sales to China.

Trump assured them the tariff actually wouldn't happen because just the threat would force China to straighten up.

"They will let their currency go up, Japan the same thing," he said. "They are devaluing."
