Donald Trump has said he will not attend Thursday's Fox News debate, but an online poll he set up hours prior to making his decision says he should.

The poll ended on Wednesday, with 56 percent saying Trump should attend and 44 percent saying he should not, The Hill reports.

Anyone, Trump supporter or not, could participate in the poll, and Trump never said he would abide by the poll's results.

The poll was the first hint he might skip the debate, and it was quickly followed by a statement from Fox News poking fun at Trump, saying he would replace he Cabinet with Twitter followers.

Trump said that statement sounded like it was written by a child and announced he would not attend and instead host his own event at the same time.
