Responding to 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney's charge that there must be a "bombshell" in his taxes to keep him from releasing them, 2016 front-runner Donald Trump again said he will make a determination "at the right time."
"The reason Mitt Romney brings it up is because he lost in the last election, and lost very badly," Trump told CNN's
"Anderson Cooper 360" on Wednesday.
Trump also tweeted out his response to the former GOP nominee, calling him a 'fool.'
Trump explained his has a "very complex system of taxes" because he has "many, many companies."
"We'll make a determination over the next couple of months," he said. It's very complicated."
Cooper asked if that meant he will release them, but the question is simply a matter of when.
"No, I'll make a determination over the next, I would say, couple of months, we'll make that determination, absolutely," he said.
Romney said earlier Wednesday that Trump always gives an answer that hedges when he is asked about releasing them.
"Either he's not as anywhere near as wealthy as he says he is or he hasn't been paying the kind of taxes we would expect him to pay, or perhaps he hasn't been giving money to the vets or to the disabled like he's been telling us he's been doing," Romney said on Fox News Channel's
"Your World with Neil Cavuto."
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said during a town hall event on Fox News Channel he will release the rest of his past taxes by the end of the week.
"I do think Mitt has a good point that the voters are entitled to know before they vote, because you better believe the Democrats, if there's anything in there, the Democrats will go to town on this," Cruz said.
Cooper also asked Trump, a businessman with no background in politics, whether he would consider naming a running mate with political experience and not another businessperson.
Trump said he would, and would also want to name someone who would make a good president should the need arise.
"I'd want someone with political skill … dealing with Congress, etc.," Trump said.
