Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren called Donald Trump a "pathetic coward" after he made comments that appeared to suggest he would approve of gun owners attacking Hillary Clinton.
During a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday, Trump said Clinton "wants to essentially abolish the Second Amendment," and if "she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although, the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don't know."
Some Trump supporters defended his comment, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani who said, "What he meant by that was, you have the power to vote against her."
Fox News host Dana Perino suggested that the rules would be different if Clinton had made a similar joke about Trump. "Imagine, if she had said, or somebody had said, that about Donald Trump — like carelessly say, 'Oh, maybe someone will assassinate him' — we would all be going crazy."
Warren, a Clinton surrogate, has been a frequent critic of Trump. Speaking at the Democratic National Convention, Warren said the GOP nominee has "no plans to make anything great for anyone except rich guys like Donald Trump."
