Conservative commentator Erick Erickson says he won't vote for front-running GOP presidential contender Donald Trump even if he becomes the nominee, condemning those who are "willing to be compromised."
Posting on his website Monday, Erickson says he's never been a supporter of the real estate billionaire —
he disinvited the candidate from a Red State conference — but now can't abide by his
earlier promise to vote for him if he's the party's standard-bearer, primarily because of his support of Planned Parenthood.
"Donald Trump believes the federal government should fund Planned Parenthood," he writes. "Donald Trump believes there are good things the child killers do."
"I have become convinced that Donald Trump's pro-life conversion is a conversion of convenience," he adds. "Life is the foremost cause in how I vote. Therefore I will not be voting for Donald Trump at all. Ever."
Erickson also decries that "so many are willing to be compromised" by the front-runner.
"If Trump were elected President, there would be members of the pro-life movement who would compromise their convictions for access to power," he writes.
Erickson in January urged the Republican establishment to coalesce behind
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, but writes he knows "for certain a large number of Trump supporters will not rally to a Cuban."
Both Rubio and rival Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who won the Iowa caucuses, are Cuban.
"If Trump is able to get the nomination, the Republican Party will cease to be the party in which I served as an elected official," Erickson writes.
"It will not deserve my support and will not get it if it chooses to nominate a pro-abortion liberal masquerading as a conservative, who preys on nationalistic, tribal tendencies and has an army of white supremacists online as his loudest cheerleaders."
