Relentless attacks on the Clinton Foundation may be the way to kick start Donald Trump's troubled campaign in his bid to beat Hillary Clinton, Republican strategists believe, according to The Hill.

But Trump must also be careful in his pounding of Clinton's non-profit charity because unanswered questions about his own business affairs could crop up, political experts say.

The Republican presidential nominee has called for Clinton to shutter the foundation, saying she and former President Bill Clinton have "spent decades lining their own pockets and taking care of donors instead of the American people."

The Associated Press reported this week that over half of the non-governmental visitors who secured meetings with Clinton when she was secretary of state also donated to her foundation.

"It's an obvious weakness in her candidacy," Republican pollster Whit Ayres told the Hill.

But Stanford University political science professor Bruce Cain, told the political news website:

"The thing about Trump is that he steps on his own message by not disclosing his own conflicts of interests and by the various other things that he does. He'd have to become a much better candidate to really take advantage of it."
