Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia "a dedicated public servant" but called on Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty to immediately fill the vacancy created by his death on Saturday.

"I did not hold Justice Scalia's views, but he was a dedicated public servant," Clinton said. "The Republicans in the Senate and on the campaign trail who are calling for the seat to be vacant dishonor our Constitution.

"The Senate has a constitutional responsibility that it cannot abdicate."
