Voters believe Hillary Clinton is more qualified to be president than Donald Trump, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll.
The results for the Democratic nominee:
- Clinton qualified to be president: 46 percent.
- Clinton not qualified to be president: 48 percent.
The results for the Republican nominee show fewer believe in his qualifications.
- Trump qualified to be president: 35 percent.
- Trump not qualified to be president: 56 percent.
Breaking down the results between voters who said they supported Clinton or Trump:
- Clinton qualified to be president: 94 percent.
- Trump qualified to be president: 76 percent.
More Democrats believe Clinton is qualified to serve than Republicans do in Trump.
- Democrats who say Clinton is qualified: 79 percent.
- Republicans who say Trump is qualified: 62 percent.
- Over half of voters not affiliated with either party think that neither is ready for the job.
Dividing up the poll results between women and men showed that men believe both candidates are equally qualified, while women prefer Clinton by 20 points.
More voters younger than 40 believe Clinton is qualified, and belief in Trump's qualification increases with voters' age.
The poll was conducted among 1,000 likely voters the night of the first presidential debate and the night after on Sept. 26 and 27.
