Donald Trump dominated the last presidential debate – but "knocked himself out" with his refusal to say he would accept the results of the Nov. 8 election, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt said Wednesday night.

In an interview on MSNBC after the debate, Hewitt said "much was lost in that one exchange."

"He won 14 of 15 rounds," Hewitt said, adding, however, at the end of the matchup, "He hit himself in the head and knocked himself out."

Asked point-blank by debate moderator Chris Wallace of Fox News if he would accept the results of the Election Day vote, Trump replied: "I will look at it at the time," adding: "I'll keep you in suspense."

Trump has frequently charged the election is "rigged" at "many" polling places.

Hewitt, however, praised Trump's performance in particular on his critique of the media, and his introduction of the issue of Democratic operatives paying protesters to be disruptive at Trump rallies.

"When he brought up inciting riots in Chicago… it's a real critique," Hewitt said. "Much was lost, however, in that one exchange."

"That one exchange has already dominated the post-debate," he said.
