ISIS Video Threatens Attack on New York City

ISIS Video Threatens Attack on New York City

By    |   Wednesday, 18 November 2015 11:50 PM EST

A new video produced by the Islamic State's (ISIS) media Furaat Media Center threatens an attack on New York City.

The video intersperses New York street scenes with suicide bombers preparing for attack.

The video shows TGI Fridays in Times Square and the Gap in Herald Square as well as yellow taxis driving by, according the The New York Post.

At the end a suicide bomber is shown setting off a grenade as the screen goes to black.

French President Francois Hollande is seen next, speaking after the Paris attacks. As he ends his speech with "it's horrible," the words, "And what's coming next will be far worse and more bitter" are superimposed on the screen.

The video also features jihadis praising "soldiers of the caliphate in France" for their "blessed operation" that killed 129 and injured more than 350 on Friday, according to the Post.

Late Wednesday night, Mayor Bill de Blasio said there is no "specific and credible threat" against the city.

Police Commissioner William Bratton agreed with the mayor during an evening news conference by both men in Times Square, adding that there was nothing new about the video, which he called "hastily produced."

"There is no credible and specific threat against New York City," de Blasio said, encouraging New Yorkers to "go about their business" as normal, while remaining watchful.

"While some of the video footage is not new, the video reaffirms the message that New York City remains a top terrorist target," New York City Police Department spokesman Stephen Davis told Fox News.

"While there is no current or specific threat to the City at this time, we will remain at a heightened state of vigilance and will continue to work with the FBI, the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the entire intelligence community to keep the City of New York safe," according to another NYPD spokesman, J. Peter Donald.

The video is an effort by ISIS to build on the momentum of the attacks not only in Paris, but in Beirut and Baghdad as well, National Review columnist and terrorism expert Tom Rogan said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."

"They want people to believe that people in the West are not safe anywhere," Rogan said. "I wouldn't read into it that it is evidence of some specific plot that is about to it take place."

Still, the United States is under threat, he said, and shouldn't think it is safe because it is an ocean away from events in Europe and the Middle East.

"We are under the threat – [a] serious threat," he said. "Fortunately the NYPD counterterrorism, the FBI is very, very good."
