An "authentic" Donald Trump has done a "great job" overcoming his sexual assault allegations, denying the veracity of his accusers and railing on the media bias in stump speeches of late, a female Trump surrogate told CNN's "State of the Union."
"He's been waterboard by these issues," former Gov. Jan Brewer, R-Ariz., told CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday morning. "It seems like it's really been somewhat of a put-up oppression of Donald Trump from all of these people lining up. It's just unbelievable. And anybody that's been under those kind of assaults wants to defend themselves.
"He did a great job explaining to the American people: Donald Trump is authentic and he tells it like it is, and he went out and told the public exactly what he's going to deliver when he becomes president of the United States."
"Waterboarding" is a reference to the controversial and outlawed interrogation torture technique in which water is poured onto the face and head of an immobilized victim to induce a fear of drowning.
Tapper was asking Mrs. Brewer about his recent stump speech attacks on his sexual assault accusers, most recently in Gettysburg, Pa., where he vowed: "The events never happened; all of these liars will be sued after the election is over."
Also, on Trump's refusal to accept the election results before they are approved, Brewer told Tapper "the law provides candidates the opportunity to challenge elections" and it is within Trump's rights to challenge them before a peaceful transition of power when it is "certified and verified."
"It was a great speech" in Gettysburg, Brewer said.
