Rep. Jason Chaffetz Wednesday declined to endorse any of the remaining Republican presidential candidates now that Marco Rubio has dropped out and said that Donald Trump was "snubbing Utah" by skipping the Fox News debate the day before the Beehive State's caucuses.
"It feels like Donald Trump is snubbing Utah," the Utah Republican and chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told Wolf Blitzer on CNN. "Isn't going to show up to the debate, isn't coming to our state. That's not going to play well with a state that's usually a fly-over state.
"But when you have an actual contest — with Trump out and [John] Kasich saying, "I'm not going to come' — that looks pretty good for Ted Cruz in such a tight race," he added.
"Utahans will look favorably upon that."
Chaffetz declined, however, to endorse the Texas senator — or any of the remaining candidates.
"I'm not endorsing," he said. "I'm going to stay out of it."
The four-term congressman backed Rubio in January and stumped with him in New Hampshire and Nevada. The Florida senator lost both state contests to Trump.
Chaffetz added that he would support the eventual nominee, telling Blitzer that any Republican would be better than Democrat Hillary Clinton.
"I intend to support the Republican nominee, but I'm going to stay out of that fight until we figure out who that is going to be," he said.
