Ohio Gov. John Kasich told a group of voters in South Carolina on Thursday he worries former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush may be hurting his family name by his use of negative attack ads, The New York Times reports.

"I’m worried about Jeb," Kasich said in Pawleys Island. "It's all negative. How the heck can you sell negative?"

Speaking afterward to reporters, Kasich said Bush is spending his time "trashing people."

"I don't know what he’s thinking," Kasich said. "Does he realize the family legacy?"

Kasich has been one of the targets of Bush in the GOP presidential campaign as both have angled to be the establishment-backed candidate. Bush has accused Kasich of expanding Medicaid in Ohio as part of Obamacare and said Kasich isn't as committed as he is to funding the military.

Kasich insisted he is going to continue his own positive style, but added, "I don't take crap from anybody."
