Ohio Gov. John Kasich is rapidly catching up to billionaire business Donald Trump in the upcoming Pennsylvania GOP presidential primary, a new Franklin and Marshall College Poll released Thursday has found.

The survey shows Trump with 33 percent of support from likely Republican voters, with Kasich close behind with 30 percent. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas trails in third place with 20 percent.

Kasich has an advantage in the Keystone State having been born and raised in the Pittsburgh suburb of McKees Rocks, but Trump also has some Pennsylvania roots having been a student at the prestigious Wharton School.

Still, Kasich's numbers have dramatically risen in Pennsylvania since the beginning of the year. Philly.com reports that in January, Kasich had just 3 percent of the GOP vote. In February, he rose to 15 percent.

The Pennsylvania primary will be held on April 26.

Statistically, Kasich would be unable to reach the number of delegates needed to win the nomination and could only possibly clinch it in a brokered convention.

The Franklin and Marshall College Poll of 828 likely voters was conducted March 14-20 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percent.
