Josh Earnest: Doubtful Obama to Watch All of Netanyahu Speech

By    |   Monday, 02 March 2015 04:29 PM EST

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that he's doubtful President Barack Obama will watch the entire speech when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses Congress Tuesday.

"I haven’t looked at the president’s schedule for tomorrow. I doubt that he will spend his whole time watching the speech," Earnest said in response to a question by NBC News reporter Chris Jansing.

Story continues below video.

Politico is reporting that 30 Democrats are planning to boycott Netanyahu's speech along with Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry, who will both be out of the country.

The White House vocally opposed the invitation after House Speaker John Boehner extended the invitation without consulting the Obama administration.

Netanyahu addressed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Monday and said that his "speech is not intended to show any disrespect to President Obama or the esteemed office that he holds."

"I have great respect for both," he added.

The Israeli prime minister said that his main reason for addressing Congress is to discourage the United States from making a nuclear deal with Iran.
