By    |   Sunday, 12 July 2015 08:22 PM EDT

David Letterman made a surprise public appearance in Texas on Friday to say he regrets his May retirement now that billionaire businessman and media star Donald Trump has entered the presidential race.

"I had no regrets. I was happy," Letterman said after he walked onstage during Martin Short and Steve Martin’s "A Very Stupid Conversation" stage show in San Antonio, Rolling Stone reports.

Story continues below video.

"I was complacent, I was satisfied, I was content," he continued. "And then a couple of days ago Donald Trump said he was running for president. I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life ladies and gentlemen."

Letterman then reached into his pocket and pulled out a list of the "Top Ten Interesting Facts About Donald Trump."

Many dealt with Trump's famous hair, and one touched on his comments about illegal immigrants that have touched off a firestorm.

"During sex, Donald Trump calls out his own name," read one "interesting fact." "Donald Trump weighs 240 pounds – 250 with cologne," read another.

Letterman also said that Trump has angered so many Mexicans "he's starring in a movie called 'No Amigos.'"
