Republican presidential candidate Lindsey Graham slammed upper-debate participant Ted Cruz during Tuesday's lower-tier debate over joining with Russian President Vladimir Putin to keep Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in power.
"To my good friend Ted Cruz, please ask him the following question," the South Carolina senator posed to CNN debate host Wolf Blitzer at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. "You say you would keep Assad in power.
"I will tell you that is the worst possible thing that could come out of an American leader's mouth," he said. "It would be disastrous.
"His favorite movie is apparently 'The Princess Bride,'" Graham added, referring to the 1987 movie that Cruz has long said is his favorite. The fairy-tale adventure is based on the William Goldman novel.
Cruz has even cited lines from the film on the campaign trail, including during a recent appearance at Iowa Central Community College,
The New York Times reports.
"Ted, getting in bed with Iran and Russia to save Assad is inconceivable," Graham said.
