Florida Sen. Marco Rubio told reporters on Tuesday he has spoken with his old friend Jeb Bush since the former governor dropped out of the presidential race on Saturday and that they plan to meet at some point.

He did not say whether he would be pressing Bush for an endorsement.

Rubio said he talked with Bush on Monday, The New York Times reports.

"He's just decompressing from this election," Rubio said of Bush,  "and trying to get going again in the rest of his life. But we'll meet and talk soon enough."

Bush had served as Rubio's mentor during his early years in Florida politics, but things got contentious between them in the race for the nomination, but Rubio indicated he's moved on.

"Things happen," he said, adding, "that's never changed my feelings toward him. And I don't think that has changed his feelings toward me."

Meanwhile, Politico reports that Bush plans a conference call with his donors on Wednesday.

Bush national finance director Heather Larrison told contributors in an email the call would be to thank them, but did not say if Bush would discuss anything else.

Politico said people close to Bush expect him to eventually endorse Rubio, but that it might take some time for him to do so.
