A Wisconsin Democratic congressman offered fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe a temporary job Saturday in order for McCabe to qualify for full retirement benefits.
Rep. Mark Pocan, who has represented the Badger State since 2013, has asked McCabe to work on election security in his office "so that he can reach the needed length of service" to retire, he said in a statement announcing the offer.
"My offer of employment to Mr. McCabe is a legitimate offer to work on election security," said Pocan, who also appealed to the former FBI No. 2 on Twitter.
"Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of American democracy — and both Republicans and Democrats should be concerned about election integrity."
Melissa Schwartz, a spokeswoman for McCabe, only told The Washington Post in response to Pocan's offer: "We are considering all options."
Pocan, a member of the House Budget Committee, also bashed President Donald Trump and fellow Wisconsin congressman, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, on the termination.
"Andrew McCabe’s firing makes it clear that President Trump is doing everything he can to discredit the FBI and undermine the special counsel’s investigation," he said.
"While Speaker Ryan and House Republicans have become complicit in the President’s destruction of our democracy, we must do all that we can to ensure that the investigation into Russia’s interference in our election is completed and that future elections are safeguarded from these kinds of attacks."
McCabe, who joined the FBI in 1996, was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Friday — two days before he was to turn 50 and was scheduled to retire.
He would only need to work in a temporary job for as long as "a day or two" to receive full benefits, according to the Post.
Another Democratic congressman, Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, also tweeted the possibility of hiring McCabe:
