Talk show host Joe Scarborough said at 6-feet-4-inches, chances were good that if he charged a police officer, he would have been treated the same way as Ferguson, Missouri shooting victim Michael Brown.
"I will tell you, cops are jerks to everybody, when you don't do what cops tell you to do," Scarborough told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Wednesday. "I'm 6-foot-4. I weigh way too much. I'm a big guy. If I'm coming at a cop on Staten Island, and I go into the car, if we believe the grand jury report, do we believe the cop would act differently towards me than Michael Brown?"
According to
witness testimony, Brown, who at 6-feet-4-inches and 240 pounds, charged police Officer Darren Wilson "like a football player."
In an
interview with ABC News on Tuesday, Wilson said Brown tried to grab his gun, and during the altercation he felt like he had to shoot Brown, because he thought "he will kill me if he gets to me."
A grand jury investigation failed to find cause to indict Wilson in Brown's death last August. Tensions over the issue have resulted in two nights of protests in Ferguson and cities around the country.
Though suggesting "black, young men, especially, are not only treated worse on the street, they're treated worse in the court systems," Scarborough said a policeman would have reacted the same if he had run to a police car and "started punching him and grabbing for his gun."
Scarborough said it didn't make headlines when "white cop kills 6-foot-4-inch white guy," and suggested the "racial component in Ferguson" helped cause the issue to be newsworthy.
