Grand Jury Witness: Brown Ran at Officer 'Like a Football Player'

By    |   Tuesday, 25 November 2014 07:43 AM EST

Michael Brown lunged for Officer Darren Wilson like a football player with his head down, an unidentified witness told the St. Louis County, Missouri, grand jury that decided not to indict the white cop in the shooting death of the unarmed 18-year-old black youth, The Smoking Gun reported.

The witness statement — a handwritten account — came to light with the release Monday night of material from the evidence presented to the grand jury.

According to the witness, Brown — who was 6-foot-4 and 292 pounds — "has his arms out with attitude," as "the cop just stood there." The witness continued, "Dang if that kid didn't start running right at the cop like a football player. Head down."

The witness said he heard "3 bangs," and still "the big kid wouldn't stop," though Wilson had shot him in the hand during a struggle at the policeman's cruiser.

In his Sept. 16 grand jury testimony, Wilson described how he struggled with Brown and asserted that the teenager reached for the officer's gun. Wilson testified that Brown mocked him, shouting, "You're too much of a pussy to shoot me."

He said he could feel Brown's "fingers try to get inside the trigger guard with my finger."

Wilson went on: "I distinctly remember envisioning a bullet going into my leg. I thought that was the next step," according to the Smoking Gun.

The cop testified that he thought Brown would "kill me if he gets a hold of this gun."

After shooting Brown from inside the police vehicle, the cop described how Brown "looked up at me and had the most intense aggressive face."

Wilson continued, "The only way I can describe it, it looks like a demon, that's how angry he looked," according to the Smoking Gun.

The jury was comprised of nine whites and three blacks. It was allowed to hear contradictory evidence to ensure that no version of events was omitted, The New York Times reported.
