Difficult tasks lay ahead for President-elect Donald Trump, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said Wednesday during an appearance on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.
"We have a lot of challenges around the world and right here at home," Flynn told the program. "The really hard work is going to begin now, and that's the work of making sure we do the things that we need to do for the people of this country."
Flynn, who has become one of Trump's key advisers and surrogates, rebuked the media and the polling industry, saying, "Frankly, that whole system is blown up."
Regarding the military and national defense, Flynn said Trump will "lead from the front" and is "a very serious guy" about keeping America safe.
"You cannot have a complex, uncertain world that we have and have a depleted military. You just can't," he added.
"That message resonated big-time with the American public, because they know, they see all the crazy things around the world, and we have a military that's the weakest and smallest that it's been."
Most Americans want hope, Flynn continued, and Trump delivered that in his victory speech Tuesday night. "They want inspiration, and they want to feel like they can achieve the American dream."
