House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., slammed the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch on Tuesday night, calling it a "very hostile appointment" to the Supreme Court.
"Elections have ramifications; here is a living, breathing example of it," Pelosi told CNN's Jake Tapper at a previously scheduled televised town hall that aired moments after President Donald Trump announced his pick on primetime television.
Pelosi painted Gorsuch as ruling in favor of "corporate America" at the expense of "class-action lawsuits" and ruling against employees' rights in securities fraud cases.
"Clean air, clean water, food safety, safety in medicine, and the rest," Pelosi said. "If you care about that for your children, he is not your guy."
Gorsuch has sided sided with felons over gun safety and against women's reproductive rights in the Hobby Lobby case, she added.
"The list goes on and on," she said. "It is a very hostile appointment."
The House's leading Democrat said she is sure Gorsuch is well-heeled and has "a lovely family," but "as far as your family is concerned, if you breathe air, drink water, eat food, take medicine or in any other way, interact with the courts, this is a very bad decision."
