Sarah Palin said Friday that President Barack Obama was "a special kind of stupid" because of his calls for tighter gun restrictions in light of the Orlando terrorist shootings.
"Enough is enough, Mr. President," the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate, said on
Facebook. "There's no 'due respect' due after pulling this stunt.
"Exploiting a sick, evil, ideological-driven attack on Americans to further your twisted anti-Second Amendment mission is disgusting," Palin continued. "Today, you're demanding an 'explanation' from law-abiding gun owners, but not demanding the same from followers of Islam, the religion behind this terror?"
In his speech Thursday outside the Amway Center in downtown Orlando, President Obama said that tougher gun laws were necessary because "our politics have conspired" to make it easy for possible terrorists or "disturbed" individuals to buy powerful guns.
The Orlando shooter, Omar Mateen, 29, of Fort Pierce, Florida, shot 49 people dead and injured as many as 53 others Sunday with an AR-15 assault rifle inside the Pulse gay nightclub.
He had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State during the assaults. Mateen was killed in a gun battle with Orlando SWAT team officers.
"If the demented Orlando terrorist doesn't represent all Islamic followers, then why do you insinuate he represents all gun owners?" Palin asked in her post.
"And why, after any shooting, do you always want to take away firearms from the innocent people who didn't do it?
"Forget your asinine gun control, do your job and engage in Islamic terrorist control," she said. "Yes, it's a special kind of stupid to demand we explain ourselves."
