Businessman Paul Nehlen — running to unseat Paul Ryan in Wisconsin's GOP primary — has unleashed a blistering condemnation of the House Speaker for "repeated betrayals" of Donald Trump that are "morally disqualifying."
In a statement on his website, Nehlan writes voters "want a leader that will put the interests of America and her citizens first."
"Paul Ryan's repeated betrayals of the GOP nominee is beneath the dignity of the Speakers' office and is morally disqualifying," Nehlen writes. "Paul Ryan has shown more passion in attacking Trump than he has ever shown in defending Americans."
Nehlen writes that Ryan's "efforts to undermine the Republican nominee — while pretending to have endorsed the nominee — is the kind of two-faced dishonest politics that has caused Americans of all political stripes to come to loathe Washington D.C."
The businessman also charges Ryan has joined "Hillary Clinton and the establishment media in rebuking Trump's common sense immigration proposals," and chose to "attack Trump's trade policies" at an "elite donors retreat" hosted by the Koch brothers.
Nehlen has released a TV ad highlighting a demonstration in front of Ryan's home by a group of women whose children were killed by illegal aliens.
"The only issue that he's ever cared about is the expansion of his own personal power," Nehlen writes.
The blistering attack followed Trump's refusal Tuesday to endorse Ryan in the primary.
According to the Journal Sentinel in Milwaukee, Ryan has out-raised Nehlen by millions of dollars, reporting raising about $5.5 million in the second quarter of the year, leaving him with $9.75 million cash on hand. Nehlen raised about $489,000 during that same period.
According to Breitbart News, Nehlen, if elected, ""would likely join the pro-America wing of the GOP Congress led by [Alabama] Sen. Jeff Sessions and [Virginia Rep.] Dave Brat."
