House Speaker Paul Ryan is getting called out in his hometown with a billboard that takes him to task for his inaction on gun reform in the wake of the Parkland, Fla., mass shooting at a high school.
The billboard’s message was sponsored by “Progressive Turnout Project” — and is crafted in the style of those in the Oscar-nominated movie, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” starring Frances McDormand and Woody Harrelson, The Hill reported.
“17 killed in their classrooms, still no gun reform? How come, Paul Ryan?” the Janesville, Wis., billboard reads, The Hill reported.
The Wisconsin Republican isn’t the only member of Congress getting trolled by billboards channeling the movie. Florida’s GOP Sen. Marco Rubio also got called out in three billboards created by online activist group Avaaz after he said gun control laws wouldn't have prevented the Florida massacre.
“Gun violence is an epidemic in this country and as Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan has repeatedly done nothing to address it,” Progressive Turnout Project founder Harry Pascal said in a release about the Wisconsin billboard.
“Rather than addressing the millions of Americans who are demanding action on gun reform, Paul Ryan and Republicans in Congress continue to serve at the will of the [National Rifle Association] and put campaign contributions before the lives of Americans,” Pascal said. “It’s time we call attention to that and hold them accountable for their actions.”
Democrats have criticized Ryan for saying that the conversation around the shooting shouldn’t turn into “taking away citizens’ rights” to own guns.
“This is not the time to jump to some conclusion,” Ryan said in response to calls for stricter gun control.
