Pence on Clinton Emails: My Son Would Be 'Court-Martialed'

The issue of Hillary Clinton's emails came up briefly a few times during the vice presidential debate, but in one instance Republican Mike Pence linked the controversy to the service of his son and that of his counterpart Tom Kaine serving in the Marine Corps.

"If my son or your son handled classified information the way that Hillary Clinton did, they'd be court martialed," Pence said, trying to show she should have been indicted for her actions.

"Hillary Clinton had a private server in her home that had classified information on it about drone strikes, emails from the President of the United States of America were on there," Pence said. "Her private server was subject to being hacked by foreigners. We can put cyber security first, if we just make sure that the next secretary of state doesn't have a private server."

Kaine countered "a formal investigation concluded that not one reasonable prosecutor would take any additional step. You don't get the decide the rights and wrongs of this. We have a justice system that does that and a Republican FBI director did an investigation and concluded that no reasonable prosecutor would take it any further."

As the Washington Examiner points out, although FBI director James Comey did say there was not enough evidence to warrant criminal charges, he clearly criticized the former secretary of state for her careless handling of classified information.

This is the second presidential election in a row where none of the four candidates in the two major parties on the ballot in November have military experience, CNN reported, with Sen. John McCain being the last presidential or vice presidential nominee to have served in the military when he ran in 2008.
