Rep. Pete King Friday urged President Donald Trump in a Newsmax TV interview to know what he has to do as president and not listen to outside noise.

"He should set the agenda," the New York Republican told Newsmax TV's "Brett Winterble Show."

King also urged the president to refrain from his battles with the media.

"Don't get in a fight with every reporter," King said, noting that he does not think people care about the size of crowds at Trump's inauguration.

He also urged Trump not to get himself too involved in "side issues," but instead to concentrate on his role as president.

King on Thursday was the first Republican in Congress to call for Trump to fire Bannon, telling WABC-TV. that "he should go."

The lawmaker, pointed to Bannon's interview with The American Prospect published Wednesday for his call to fire the strategist. In the article, Bannon touted racial divisiveness as a critical way to defeat Democrats and undercut Trump's tough position on North Korea.
