Suspicious packages intercepted from being sent to former President Barack Obama and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as an explosive device received at CNN's New York City Headquarters, were acts of terrorism, both Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday.
Cuomo also confirmed that a suspicious package had been sent to his own offices in Manhattan.
"There is a number of devices and there's a pattern apparently to the number of devices," said Cuomo. "We wouldn't be at all surprised if more devices show up. A device has been sent to my office in Manhattan which we were just informed about that and device is also being handled.
He further asserted that the incidents are "terrorism related."
"So, again, this is a situation," Cuomo said. "A number of devices have been sent. They're being handled. We wouldn't be surprised if additional devices are sent. And the device that is been sent to my office has been identified and is being handled as we speak."
De Blasio, likewise, called the mailings "clearly an act of terror."
"This was clearly an act of terror attempting to undermine the free press and leaders of this country through acts of violence," he told reporters. "We've seen worse. And we will not be intimidated."
Meanwhile, NYC Police Commissioner James O'Neill said police recovered a device that appeared to be a live explosive at the CNN office and an envelope containing white powder.
