Hillary Clinton owns a 6-point national lead over Donald Trump, according to the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll released Monday.
The results:
- Clinton: 42 percent;
- Trump: 36 percent;
- Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson: 9 percent;
- Green Party's Jill Stein: 2 percent;
- Undecided: 10 percent.
Clinton led by just 1 point in this survey prior to last week's first debate.
The poll surveyed respondents about Trump's back-and-forth last week with Alicia Machado, a former Miss Universe winner whom Trump called the worst ever, in part because of her subsequent weight gain.
The poll asked respondents if they had a more or less favorable view of Trump following that.
The results:
- More favorable: 9 percent;
- Less favorable: 54 percent;
- No impact: 33 percent.
Further, 43 percent said the hubbub made them less likely to support Trump.
The poll of 1,991 likely voters was conducted between Sept. 30 and Oct. 2, and has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
