Almost two-thirds of Republicans feel "mostly embarrassed" about their party after seeing how the presidential campaign season has panned out, according to the results of a new poll.
The New York Times/CBS News survey found that 60 percent of Republican primary voters are not happy with the GOP, compared to the 13 percent of Democrats who felt the same about their own party.
Real estate mogul Donald Trump has turned the GOP upside down during the campaign season, and he has a
strong lead in both polls and
delegate votes.
And even if Trump secures enough delegates to win the nomination, there's talk of a potential delegate revolt at this summer's
Republican National Convention.
Roughly 60 percent of Republican voters surveyed in the aforementioned poll also said the tone of this campaign has been more negative than past races for the White House.
Trump has repeatedly insulted his fellow candidates on the campaign trail and during debates. His campaign manager is also coming under fire for
aggressive tactics.
Regarding Democrat Hillary Clinton, 40 percent of Democrat primary voters in the NYT/CBS poll said she is dishonest and cannot be trusted.
"I think she'll say whatever she needs to to get elected, and what she says may not be what she's planning to do," a Bernie Sanders supporter told the Times.
"I was concerned already when she was first lady, though I don't know what it is. I just don't know, and when we find out, it may be too late."
