Donald Trump's chances of winning swing states are dwindling, with a new survey showing his numbers are well below Hillary Clinton's in three of them.
Politico examined the 11 swing states and found that in Colorado, New Hampshire, and Virginia, Clinton is a virtual lock to win in two months. Trump is still in contention in the other eight states, but his numbers suggest Clinton is favored to win the presidential election.
In Pennsylvania, for example, Politico calculates Clinton's lead to be at 10 points — a state in which Trump once posed more of a threat in terms of poll numbers.
New Hampshire offers just 4 electoral votes and the Trump campaign, Politico reported over the weekend, has ranked it at the bottom in terms of its swing state preparations. Virginia, however, has 13 electoral votes on offer and could play a key role in November.
"Anything you're going to spend on Trump is a waste at this point," former Virginia House member David Ramadan told Politico. "The overall vote is going to be determined by Northern Virginia and the Tidewater area. Those two areas are not going to go on the Trump side."
Trump has spent time and money in Virginia though, as he tries to overcome an 11-point deficit there.
Politico's numbers show Clinton is leading in each of the 11 swing states in this election cycle: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
A Washington Post survey from earlier this week, meanwhile, showed that Clinton's leads in the northeast and on the west coast have put her in complete control with the election looming.
RealClear Politics has Clinton with 229 electoral votes and Trump with 154, while 155 votes from 11 states are labeled as tossups. Two hundred seventy electoral votes are needed to win the presidential election.
